ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Having worked under intense pressure as a commercial artist in the advertising industry for more than four decades, I initially resisted turning professional as a fine artist, instead enjoying the freedom to paint for my own enjoyment at my leisure.

However, in recent years enthusiastic response to my paintings, and demand from those who have seen them, coupled with the volume of work I’ve produced, have encouraged me to turn professional.

In my work I am passionate about creating expansive, sweeping skyscapes so strong that they demand the viewer’s attention in themselves, as well as providing a backdrop for foregrounds inspired by personal experience, such as travels through Namibia and Botswana, and the tidal estuary where the River Thames meets the North Sea in the south-east of England in Essex, my county of origin.
